Maties Hockey

The Maties hockey club was established in 1901 (men’s club) with the women’s club established in 1903. We have been competitive in all major leagues and throughout our successful hockey years we have the following to show for it:

  1. NATIONAL SENIOR REPRESENTATION
    • 32 women
    • 20 Men
  2. WESTERN PROVINCE GRAND CHALLENGE WINNERS
    • Women: From 1976 – 2020 (44 years) they have won the league for 32 seasons (Top 3 placement for the rest of the 12 seasons)
    • Men: Won the first time in 1904 and won the league 16 times until today. With the rest of the years finishing top 3
  3. USSA TITLES
    • Women: First title in 1976 (44 years ago) and have won 20 titles since then. Last title in 2014
    • Men: First title in 1978 (42 years ago) and have won 12 titles since then. Last title in 2016
  4. VARSITY SPORT
    • Women: Won the first ever Varsity Sport competition in 2013, finished 3rd in 2015, 2nd in 2017 & 2019.
    • Men: Finished 2nd in the 2014 competition, 3rd in 2016, 2nd in 2018 and no competition in 2020 (covid)

Currently we have 12 teams competing in the WP league (220 players) we also have a big residence league with 48 teams competing every year.
