Hi-Tec and Maties Rugby continue longstanding partnership

Maties Rugby benefit from longstanding partnership with Hi-Tec as the company sponsors off-field apparel to our 7’s teams (men and women) ahead of their University Sport South Africa (USSA) and Varsity Sports tournaments.

Head of the Maties Rugby Programme, Drikus Hancke shares with us brief history of the partnership between Maties Rugby and Hi-Tec saying: “Hi-Tec has been the off-field apparel sponsor of the Maties Rugby Club since 2018. They are a brand that the students enjoy wearing, ensuring that our teams are comfortable and dressed well.

Their passionate support of the team has been something that stands out and they have been a valuable club partner who are always happy to go the extra mile.”

This sponsorship comes at the right time for our 7’s team and Hancke admits that Maties are set to be the “best-dressed teams” at their national competitions. Head of Marketing at Hi-Tec Andrea Engelbrecht echoes the same sentiments, “We hope to provide the best quality gear to ensure student-athletes are comfortable to perform their best in the lead up to their games.”

“We are proud to be partners with an establishment with so much history and to be able to be involved with a community that keeps empowering the youth through sport,” she went on to say about the relationship between the two entities.

The Chief Director of Maties Sport, Ilhaam Groenewald, expressed her appreciation with the Hi-Tec’s sponsorship and cited it as a key deliverable of Maties Sport, aligned to one of the Stellenbosch University’s strategic themes which is Purposeful Partnerships and Inclusive Networks.

At the USSA send-off function which took place on Tuesday, both Hancke and President of Stellenbosch RFC Charl Cronje were pleased to finally be able to cater for our women’s rugby set-up with their own apparel.

We are especially happy for the women’s team, who will receive the same off-field apparel as our men’s sides for the first time. They have been training hard and deserve to feel well looked after. Both teams will proudly wear the kit and represent their University and Hi-Tec with lots of passion,” concluded Hancke.
