Ten Maties athletes included in the Team SA squad for FISU World University Games in China

After a two-year wait for the 31st Summer Universiade FISU World University Games will finally take place in Chengdu, China from 28 July to 08 August 2023. On Tuesday, University Sport South Africa (USSA) announced their travelling team that will be flying the green and gold flag at the games.  

The squad is inclusive of ten (10) Maties Sport student-athletes and one (1) coach.  

“Congratulations with your inclusion as part of the USSA national teams due to represent our beautiful country and our university at the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu, China. 

Due to Covid the games were unfortunately postponed for 2 years. This must have impacted some of you, including student-athletes who were no longer able to participate. However your opportunity has come now to give it your best, continue to strive for excellence and win a medal or two for our country. 

We are very proud of you, and are here to  continue to support you to ensure that you perform,” said Maties Sport Chief Director Ilhaam Groenewald.
